The Psychology of Begging 101 Ever wonder why someone with 4 kids to feed, who is losing their home, and has $20,000 in credit card debt gets no donations? Yet someone else who wants some postage stamps to write letters ends up getting multiple donations? Here is the reason... it's the art of begging! If someone has only $5.00 or $10.00 to donate, or even $1.00 to donate, they feel their small donation will not even make a dent in the debt of someone who is deeply in debt. They feel it's almost insulting to send a few dollars to someone who needs thousands of dollars. So they send to someone who is asking for just a little bit. Let me use the example of the lady who wanted a pair of $125 jeans (see her and other retired stories on Page 10). She got a donation for the full amount! Once again, $125 will not save someone's home or pay off large credit card debt. A mere $125 will not make a desperate person's dream come true. But $125 did make the jeans lady's dream come true. The donator felt like they we really able to accomplish something with their donation. Does it upset you that someone is getting donations for frivolous things? If so, why? If they want extra money that is their business! You don't have to be broke to beg! Anyone is allowed to ask for what they want. Even the very rich ask for raises, seek out investors, and pick pennies up off the ground. And who knows... the person asking for a pair of jeans may not even want jeans. She probably fed her hungry kids! Once your story is posted I urge you to tell all your friends to read it! Tell them to pass the info along! Tell everyone you can to read it and as word spreads you will get more donations! I strongly suggest you DO NOT put the dollar amount of your debt in your story. And you should keep your story very short (no more than 5 lines), light hearted, and a bit humorous. People like to donate to those who are not desperate, have an uplifting attitude, and who sound like they are willing to help themselves. I have been studying the art of begging since I started this site in Sept 2007. I contact hundreds of beggars from other sites and listen to their feedback. So far only two people in nearly 2,500 told me they got a few dollars in donations... that's it!!! All the rest said they got scam emails for bogus checks from people promising them hundreds and even thousands of dollars (never accept those checks... they bounce!) I'm so confident about my site and the integrity that I bring to it (and the customer support I provide) that I will invite you to join a free site called www.my-donation.com. Check out some of their stories and you will soon be very bored with all that reading. Ask people if they are getting donations (their emails are all listed... a big invitation to scammers) and go ahead and put your story up too! In no time you will be buried on page 20 and no one will even read your entry. The site is free... and you get what you pay for! UPDATE! my-doantion.com is now down! People paid to be on it and got nothing in return! Check them out now...
